Baby Dolls – The Success Story of a Simple Housewife
Elain is a small entrepreneur who started her business five years ago in Bahrain. She owns the kids apparel line by the name of Baby Dolls. She was only 23 when she got married to John, who is a banker by profession and got settled in Bahrain. She was not able to complete her graduation degree in business administration because she had conceived her first child right after marriage.
Now she is the proud mother of two girls. Spending the first 8 years of her married life as a full time mom and homemaker, Elain had the desire to do something big in life. The business spark was always there only a little suppressed due to family responsibilities. When her kids started schooling, Elain started to have ample time at home. Having a good aesthetic sense and designing capabilities, Elain used to stitch beautiful clothes for her kids with the help of her mother.
In 2004 she decided to start her own business but on a small scale. She started taking orders from her family and friends who always admired her designs. Catering to the middle-income bracket she went on to display some of her designs at the local commercial area of her block. The idea was a success. She did not only offer ready to wear garments for little girls but also took customized orders. Her clientele ranged from girls at the age of 1 year to teenage. Very soon, she was the talk of the town.
Keeping into consideration the social networking phenomenon that was taking place at that time, Elain decided to go online. She would display her creations on various social networks and would take orders from all over. Her business was now a thriving success. With the help of her husband John, she was able to take a small business loan from a bank which helped to expand her production. She now has her own workshop with a group of skilled human resource and about ten to fifteen stitching machines. She handles the procurement and designing issues herself. Going to the market buying clothes and accessories and ensuring quality and standards is very important to keep the customers satisfied. She also ensures that all products are delivered on time and are up to the mark for the customers. She has good return one-week return policy if the apparel does not fit or is damaged.
She has had full support from her husband who is now keeping up the financial matters and accounting books of the business. Marketing and online effectiveness has been a key factor in the success of the apparel line. Without efficient management and service, repeat customers would not have been possible. Starting with only one-idea and limited resources, Elain has managed to come a long way. Now she is planning to go retail by opening her own stores and outlets in various parts of the country.
